In Zambia, Ms. Moomba M. Thornicroft from The Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) Coordinator for Legal Support, Sexual & Reproductive Health was elected Chairperson of SANOP Zambia Steering Committee.

Despite disruptions from COVID 19 and the 2021 Zambian General Elections, which were held in August, SANOP Zambia stayed committed to completing its activities planned for the year.Our team has also been able to adapt to new ways of working for us to continue serving our target population acknowledging the fact that COVID 19 will be with us for many years to come.

Establishment of Youth Clubs
To facilitate addressing challenges faced by ex-young offenders and improve coordination of interventions, SANOP recommended and prioritised establishing Youth Clubs across the SANOP countries where local leaders and SANOP Chapter members would mentor Club members and assist them to access resources to empower them and facilitate their integration.
SANOP’s Youth Entrepreneurship Drive
SANOP initiated the ‘Youth Entrepreneurship’ component under its programming, aimed at equipping the young offenders with business training and start viable small businesses as a sure way to reduce chances of reoffending.
Sexual Reproductive Health Training of juveniles and youths
In Zambia, Sexual Reproductive Health Training, Leadership and Life skills Training and Business and Entrepreneurship Training sessions were conducted for ex-inmates’ groups in Petauke and Samfya and at Katombora and Nakambala juvenile correctional centres.
Zambia: COVID-19 Preparedness and Response
At the the onset of COVID-19, SANOP implemented a COVID-19 response intervention in Bzyanzi and Kachere Juvenile Prisons in Dowa and Lilongwe districts, respectively.
The project aimed at capacitating the prisons to effectively prevent infections in prisons and take necessary measures to manage COVID-19 in the case of an infection occurring.
Health and Youth Friendly Services Training
A Health and Youth Friendly Services training was held in November 2021, aimed at enhancing knowledge and skills among officers in health, especially sexual reproductive health and rights, and provision of youth friendly services.
