Samson Kajawo
Vice Chairperson
Samson Chaima Kajawo is both an academician and a professional in correctional service. He has worked in the Malawi Prisons Service for 26 years in posts related to staff training, prisoners’ education, research, planning, and policy development. He currently serves as Director of Research and Planning at the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Prisons. He holds a PhD in Correctional Education and a Master’s in Corrections Management from the University of South Africa. He also holds two additional master’s degrees in policy, planning and leadership from the University of Malawi and in educational management from East China Normal University. Before the post-graduate degrees, he obtained a bachelor’s degree from Mzuzu University. Kajawo has authored and published more than ten research articles and book chapters in the area of incarcerated people’s rights, rehabilitation, and offenders’ access to education in correctional facilities. His research interests also include higher education and restorative justice. Within the MPS, he also chairs the Institutional Integrity Committee. Kajawo has also been involved in numerous international training programme in peace support operations, and has coordinated and facilitated trainings in restorative justice and offenders’ rehabilitation for SADC and other international organisations. His favourite quotation of world leaders is “I am a doer, I am a doer unapologetically…I am just a boy—a boy to everybody…” – President Duma Gideon Boko. He is the current Vice Charperson of SANOP.
