What is SANOP
The Southern Africa Network of Prisons (SANOP) is a membership-based organisation that exists to serve the prison and ex-prison community and promote human health and dignity in Southern Africa. The organisation was formed in 2015 to coordinate prison health issues and build the capacity of actors in the prison population arena in southern Africa. Initially, SANOP started with operations in Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Eswatini. There is an intention to move into two other countries in Southern Africa.
The Southern Africa Network of Prisons (SANOP) was historically conceived from a Prisons programme within the Voluntary Services Organisation (VSO) under the Health cluster. As the need to pay focus on Prisons and the welfare of prisoners grew, a resolution was passed to make SANOP a standalone entity.
