Capacity Assessments for ex-prisoner associations

Capacity Building:

Capacity Assessments for ex-prisoner associations

To better understand the needs of the prison population, capacity assessment was pivotal for SANOP to measure the level of decision-making and understanding of the consequences it came with.

For instance, in March 2020, a total of six (6) ex-inmate’s associations underwent capacity assessments exercises offered by SANOP. The associations included Eswatini Cornerstone Association, Eswatini Association of Rehabilitated Ex-Offenders, Eswatini National Federation of Ex-Prisoners and the Solidarity Association of Ex-Convicts and Youth Empowerment. The assessments aimed at identifying gaps within the associations to identify capacity building needs. The needs-based capacity building sessions would then be offered to the respective associations through training and practice.

Following the many capacity assessments sessions conducted between 2020 and 2021, a number of capacity building sessions for inmates and ex-inmate associations and other SANOP members were carried out with the support of experts in the respective fields. The training sessions covered topics such as leadership, business development, management, proposal writing, finance, sexual and reproductive health, COVI-19 and monitoring and evaluation principles.
