Moomba Thornicroft is a public health practitioner, researcher, and rights advocate with more than 12 years of experience working at the intersection of gender-based violence prevention and response, mental health, justice reform, and community engagement. She is the Executive Director of A Place Called Home–Ikhaya, a Zambian woman-led organization dedicated to raising awareness, strengthening prevention efforts, and supporting survivors of sexual violence through trauma-informed and community-based approaches. Her work focuses on strengthening psychosocial support systems, engaging faith leaders and communities, and advancing interventions that address the interconnected challenges of violence, mental health, and HIV. She holds a Master’s degree in Public Health, a Diploma in Law, and a Certificate in Forensic and Criminal Investigations Psychology. Her professional experience includes research, counseling, juvenile offender management, prison reform, and faith-based programming, with a strong interest in community-driven approaches that support vulnerable populations and promote social justice. Moomba currently serves as a Regional Board Member for the Southern African Network of Prisons and previously served as Chairperson of the Zambia Chapter, where she contributed to advocacy and dialogue around rehabilitation, reintegration, and human rights within correctional systems. She also serves as Vice Board Chair for Alliance for Community Action, supporting strategic leadership and governance for community-focused initiatives. Through her work, she continues to champion survivor-centered, holistic, and sustainable approaches to public health and community transformation.
